Is it possible for a 16-year-old to be granted the ACLS certification? If not, how do they get BLS?
It is not possible to obtain EMT certification is provided at any State for those who are less than 18 years of age. There are three types of EMTs. From the lowest to the most prestigious certification, they include:
- EMT Basic: It is BLS, which stands for Basic Life Support. CPR. Bandaging wounds. Splints. EMT B's cannot give substance whatsoever, and that includes Oxygen in the majority of jurisdictions since O2 is considered to be a drug. They aren't able to start IVs. They basically drive the ambulance and help Paramedics. An EMT Basic Ambulance can do just that, namely, package an individual for transportation and take their patient to the medical facility. Nearly every Fireman in America is an EMT Basic (some are trained even less and are just "First Responders"...essentially the same thing. Drug prohibition is not a requirement. Only capable of stopping bleeding and administering CPR...transport.
- EMT Intermediate: There aren't many of them in the world. It's basically a mid-level station for EMT Basics Paramedics' training. EMT I have the ability to intubate, provide Oxygen and provide restricted drugs, and also start IVs. A small percentage of people are EMT-I without having completed a course of training to get toward becoming EMT P.
- EMT Paramedic: EMT Paramedics are able to administer any medications that are allowed under their protocols and can perform any procedure that is available on the market. is available. It is only EMT paramedics (EMT P's) are able to become ACLS certified. Basic EMTs cannot be certified for ACLS certified because it requires pushing sophisticated drugs and extremely complicated algorithms for what to do with 1st line drugs and 2nd line medications, when to use them, in what dosage and order and what medications are not recommended for certain patients and medical conditions.
- It is evident that nowhere in America could a 16-year-old be permitted to master ACLS procedures that require hundreds of drugs as well as their dosages, and how to apply them in cases when a patient is critically dying. ACLS treatment generally means the patient will be killed unless the proper treatments and medications are in place. Anyone who is older than 10 may receive instruction in BLS. It's basically what 8-year-olds learn in First Aid Classes within Scouts. Boys as well as Girls Scouts. It's a simple process. Start breathing to stop the bleeding, and secure the wound. There's a huge distinction between "teaching" children BLS and a state that issues an official certification that allows them to practice the skill in a professional manner. In the same way, as it pertains to State and Federal certification concerned, there is no way for a child to enrol, let alone obtain a BLS or ACLS certification in America. The consequences of allowing a child to be employed in EMS are huge. That's why they aren't allowed to attend the courses, obtain the certificate or perform work until the age of 18. To become an EMT Paramedic, you must be 21 due to the medication that is given to patients.
