Is Office Cleaning is Responsibility for Everyone?
Cleanliness is about beauty, health, and the prevention of contamination to others. By practicing cleanliness, you can maintain your physical and mental health, which will help you feel better.
Kimberly-Clark Professional partnered with The British Institute of Cleaning Science, the UK's foremost training body, to provide best practice and top-notch expertise to Facilities Managers throughout the country.
Everyone wants to be as safe and healthy as possible in these uncertain times. It is important to recognize that everyone shares the responsibility of reducing infection and contamination at work. Everyone has a responsibility to support the cleanliness of the workplace and prevent the spread of infection.
While the essential role of the cleaning operative is still important, and certainly with more focus than in pre-pandemic, now it is more critical that strong training programmers are effectively passed through the cleaning workforce, and to all staff.
BICSc says that the minimum training required for cleaning workers should include:
- Chemical competence is essential to ensure that operatives are competent in the use and dilution of all chemical options. It is important to know the right dilution of disinfectants and how long they must be active on surfaces to achieve the highest germ kill rate.
- Safety assembly and care of equipment to ensure that they are familiar with the safety precautions applicable to each piece of equipment used in the performance of their duties.
- To minimize cross-contamination, it is best to keep storage areas clean and safe.
- They will also need the following knowledge to address the current challenges.
- Use the right wipe for the task at hand and make sure the product is suitable for the surface being cleaned.
- To use systematic, overlapping wiping actions to clean all surfaces.
- To clean the wipe after it has been used on all surfaces.
- To clean the areas that are cleanest and the dirtiest, to minimize cross-contamination
BICSs recommends that you apply cleaning products from dirty to clean areas in order to give bacteria the best chance of being killed. As shown in the image, these areas are cleaned starting with those that are least contaminated and ending with those that have been contaminated more severely.
What are the rules of cleaning?
- DO NOT wipe, spray or wipe disinfectants immediately.
- Do not forget to spray the area and leave it slightly damp.
- Use vinegar or any other disinfectant that has not been approved by the EPA is prohibited.
- DO NOT use heat for cleaning.
